Important information for our members:
Flu Vaccine – Winter 2021

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to place our health system under extreme pressure, the effects of which will likely be felt into 2022. While seasonal flu vaccination is not known to give immunity against coronavirus, promoting good health during the annual winter flu season is a sensible approach to our current health environment.

If you fall into an at-risk group

You can get the flu vaccine under the HSE Flu Vaccine Programme for free if you:

  • are 65 years of age and over

  • are pregnant
  • are a child aged 2 to 17 years
  • are an adult or child aged 6 months or older with a long-term health condition
  • were born with Down syndrome
  • live in a nursing home or other long-term care facility

We suggest you read more detailed information here to see if you are eligible for a free vaccine: https://www.hse.ie/eng/health/immunisation/pubinfo/flu-vaccination/about-the-vaccine/

If you do not fall into an at-risk group

Irish Life Health members can claim for a flu vaccine administered by their GP under the GP visit benefit, where this benefit is available on their plan.

To make things easier for you this flu season, you can also get your flu vaccine from a nurse or at any pharmacy nationwide and claim back the amount covered on your plan through our online claims portal. This can be claimed under the GP visit benefit on your plan for receipts dated between 1st October 2021 and 31st March 2022.

There are also a number of Irish Life Health plans that offer a specific flu vaccination benefit that can be used with any provider. Members who have this benefit on their plan can attend a provider of their choice and then claim back the amount covered on their plan through our online claims portal.

Update on vaccines provided by Tropical Medical Bureau (TMB)

Some Irish Life Health members will have a specific flu vaccination benefit with our provider partner TMB.

  • If you have a GP visit benefit on your plan, you can get your flu vaccine at any pharmacy or GP surgery nationwide and claim back the amount covered by this benefit through our online claims portal. If you’re submitting receipts from a pharmacy or nurse, they must be dated between 1st October 2021 and 31st March 2022.
  • This year, TMB have a restricted supply of the flu vaccine but can provide appointments to Irish Life Health members at the clinics listed below.
